Maria Thomas was born to the parentage of the late Stephen Thomas and Philomene Tanis on March 7, 1939 in Port-de-Paix, Haiti. “Soeur Ma” as she was affectionately called her friends and family completed her primary schooling in Haiti. In 2005, a new life began as our Heavenly Father guided Maria to the United States of America her permanent home.
As a loving and caring woman, the Lord blessed Maria with 5 (five) beautiful children: Edith, Yadeline, Carleine, Wilmine and Ossey (deceased). She loved her family and her family loved and cherished her in return. She instilled the highest level of morals and values into her children who will undoubtedly pass on the same teachings to their children as part of her legacy. She made sure her children and grandchildren knew God first, their Haitian culture and the will to serve. They will always remember her as the devoted mother, grandmother, church leader and friend that she was.
Maria’s love and devotion flowed from her heart to her family and then to her community. She had a giving heart and a warm spirit. As a faithful servant of the Lord, she loved to talk about Christ and share words of encouragement with everyone her life touched. In addition, she was a member of L’glise Salem L’arche de Nóe, under the leadership of Doctor Rose Charles. Maria enjoyed attending church and spending time with her family and friends.
Maria was a true woman of God. A woman of love. A woman of inner peace. She leaves behind a legacy of greatness. Although we cannot see her, we know that she is gone, for God has promised us a home throughout all eternity where life and love continue far beyond what we can see.
On Tuesday, January 2, 2007, Maria entered into paradise. We know that she is gone in flesh, but she will always be in our hearts. Servant of God well done, rest from thy love employ, the battle fought, the victory won enter Thy Master’s joy.
Née le 7 Mars 1939, Maria Thomas était la fille de Stephen Thomas et Philomène Tanis, originaires de Port-de-Paix, Haïti. En quête d’une vie meilleure, elle avait immigré aux États-Unis pour mieux guarantir l’avenir de ses enfants, et le reste de sa famille qu’elle adorait.
Maria avait su combler son entourage d’un amour chaleureux du fond de son coeur, sa famille ainsi que sa communauté en ont profité. Fervente croyante, elle avait été fidèle membre de l’église Salem « L’Arche de Noé » Church où ses enfants continuent à apprendre la parole de Dieu. Maria fût une femme courageuse ainsi qu’une amie et conseillère pour tous ses enfants et amis.
Sans doute le mardi 2 janvier 2007, à 5 heures 04 du matin notre Père céleste a fait appel à son âme pour être en paix à ses côtés dans son royaume. Nous allons tous lui manquer.
Ses collègues, parents, familles, et amis n’oublieront jamais le doux et précieux moment qu’ils ont vécut ensemble. Bref, ils seront tous marqués de son empreinte indélébile. Outre sa bonté légendaire et incomparable,
Maria était une dévouée servante de Dieu. Sa marche spirituelle assidue et ses témoignages nous permettent de déclarer avec le psalmiste :
« Elle a du prix aux yeux de Dieu «. La mort de ceux qui l’aiment certes Maria s’en va mais sa mémoire nous imprégnera à jamais. Que le Dieu de toute consolation nous réconforte en ce moment fragile et douloureux; Le départ soudain de notre bien aimée Sœur Ma laisse dans la consternation et le deuil de nombreux parents, amis et familles affligés.
