Adilien Bouton, aka “Ben” was born on March 11, 1956, in Jean-Rabel, Haiti, to Celissa Bouton, he was the fourth of five children. From a very young age, he embodied strength, devotion, and unconditional love. At the age of five, his paternal grandmother, "Man Sonson," decided to move to Port-de-Paix and brought young Adilien along with her. When he was 14, they relocated to Port-au-Prince, marking the beginning of a new chapter that would lay the foundation for his future.
In 1974, Adilien met Nicole Mondesir, and two years later, they married. Together, they had three children: James Kelly Bouton, Jean Ricardo Bouton, and Madgalina Christina Bouton. After the passing of his beloved wife, Adilien had two more children, Daphney Bouton and Stivenson Bouton with Matilde Emilias. Life in Haiti wasn’t easy, but Adilien worked tirelessly to provide for his five children. By 1989, he realized that to secure a brighter future for them, he needed to seek better opportunities. With a heavy heart, he left Port-au-Prince and moved to the United States, determined to create a better life for himself and the family he left behind.
When Adilien arrived in America, he was reunited with his long-lost family, including his uncle Fequiere Labonte and his godfather Renel Etienne, who had already settled in the country. They took a personal interest in helping him adjust and teaching him how to navigate life in this new environment. Adilien worked tirelessly, often holding two jobs, to ensure his family back in Haiti was well cared for. Although he couldn’t visit his children and family for six years, he remained dedicated to supporting them from afar. After finally obtaining his legal status, Adilien returned to Haiti to see his loved ones. True to his loving nature as a father, he didn’t just bring gifts; he brought clothes and shoes that fit perfectly. Even after six years, Adilien’s attention to detail and deep love for his children meant he knew their clothing and shoe sizes without needing to ask.
After his visit, Adilien made plans to bring his children to the United States. However, due to the lengthy processing, only four were approved to join him, while one remained behind, still waiting for the chance to reunite with their father. A few years later, during a visit to his aunt Marie Claude Labonte in Canada, Adilien met his third spouse, Marie Rachel Jean Francois. Their love story was truly special; one that words alone cannot fully capture.
To say Adilien was respected would be an understatement. He was admired by everyone who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. If you asked anyone who ever interacted with Adilien, they would tell you about his tireless work ethic, his unwavering commitment to his loved ones, and the sacrifices he made to ensure his family’s well-being. His siblings and friends fondly remember how he would drop everything to be there for them, whether it was lending a helping hand or offering a kind word. Adilien was the embodiment of reliability and loyalty, a man who could always be counted on.
Adilien was a man who loved deeply and wholeheartedly. He was a devoted father, not only to his children but also to their spouses, whom he embraced with open arms. To his daughters-in-law, he was more than just a father-in-law—he was a father, offering love, guidance, and warmth that left a lasting impact. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and his eyes would light up at the mere mention of them. His family always came first in his heart, and he lived each day ensuring they knew how much he loved and cared for them.
Even as he battled terminal cancer in his final days, Adilien’s spirit remained unbroken. Surrounded by his loving children, he felt the depth of their gratitude for all the sacrifices he had made. They ensured he felt their love, every step of the way, offering him the same care and devotion he had shown them throughout his life. The bond between Adilien and his children was undeniable—they adored, respected, and loved their father beyond words, and their hearts are heavy with grief at his passing.
Adilien Bouton’s life, though tragically shortened, was full of love, service, and dedication to his family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy of hard work, sacrifice, and boundless love will never be forgotten. He may no longer be with us, but his spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who love him.
Adilien is survived by his five children: James Kelly Bouton, Jean Ricardo Bouton, Magdalina Christina Bouton, Daphney Bouton, and Stivenson Bouton. He also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren: Nicolvich Zephyr, Ricardwina Bouton, Andrea Bouton, Chrismeyer Bouton, Nelly Meance, Whitney Jean Barret, Bella Beauzil, Belantina Beauzil, Raphaeli Bouton, Eloina Bouton, Zachael Bouton, Angel Beauzil, and Matilda Bouton. Additionally, he is survived by two daughters-in-law, Gwenaelle Sainttil and Anne Pierre; his brother, Claircilien Etienne; his uncle, Fequiere Labonte; his aunt, Marie Claude Labonte; and his cousin, Paul Gaboton.
