Agnes Sylvestre was born on April 15, 1937 in Aquin, Haiti, to parents Ysameme and Venerabe Sylvestre. Agnes was one of four children; Edma, Luke, and Usile, raised in a home rooted in love, faith, and strong family values. She later married Arnold Sylvestre, with whom she shared many years of marriage until his passing in 2012. Agnes was admired by her 6 sister- in laws and 4 living brother- in- laws and many cousins. Agnes was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother and a pillar of strength for her family.
Agnes was blessed with seven biological children and one adopted child: Felix Sylvestre, Denise Sylvestre, Karine Gaspard, Mathilde Gaspard, Nicolle Gaspard, Wilvie Gaspard, Serge Gaspard and Rosemathe Destin. In addition to 2 daughter- in- laws and 4 sons in law; Marie (Fifi) Sylvestre, Calix Boereau, Patrick Pilorge, Lacroix Louis, Osnel Rivere and Nancie Gaspard. In 2007, Agnes came to America, where she lived with her children throughout Florida, including Orlando, Ft. Myers and Boca Raton. Wherever she went, she brought warmth, wisdom and a sense of home to those around her.
Agnes was truly the heart of her family. She had a special gift for making everyone feel seen, loved and important. Her home was always open, and her presence alone brought comfort and peace. She was known for remembering everyone’s birthday by heart, a simple but powerful reflection of how deeply she cared for each person in her life. No one was ever forgotten and every celebration was made more meaningful because of her thoughtfulness. She opened her arms to everyone she encountered, earning the beloved nickname “Maren,” meaning Grandmother. To know Agnes was to love her. Her radiant smile, gentle words and kind spirit left a lasting impression on all who crossed her path. She had a way of bringing people together, strengthening bonds and reminding her family of the importance of love, unity and forgiveness. Agnes was a faithful servant of the Lord. She lived her life guided by her strong belief in God, often encouraging others to “get right with God,” read their Bible, and pray daily. Her faith was unwavering and she found comfort and strength in her favorite scripture, Psalm 91, which she carried in her heart and shared with others.
On Saturday, March 28, 2026, Agnes entered into eternal rest at Gulf Coast Medical Center Lee Hospital. Though her passing leaves a deep void, her love, lessons and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Agnes leaves to cherish her precious memories her seven children, seventeen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom mourn her loss while celebrating a life so beautifully lived.
