Anne Humphrey Chester was born to Broadus and Arneatha (Ridgell) Humphrey in East Meadow, New York on September 18, 1942. She grew up in Inwood, New York and graduated from Lawrence High School, Lawrence, New York in 1960. What she loved most was being a majorette in her high school band. She was co-captain her junior and senior year. She began a career as an operator with New York Telephone & Telegraph Company in March 1962. She worked for 40 years with the telephone company and retired from AT&T in 2002. Our mom loved to serve, in her own words, "serving is a privilege well worthy to take advantage of and it pleases God." She ushered, sang in the choir, served as youth leader, and was the junior usher board director. She served for many years after retirement as the Administrative Assistant of Impact Church Orlando. She was affectionately known as "Mama Anne." She wasn't just our mom, she was a mom to everyone. She was loving, sweet, patient and kind. She affected so many lives just by her presence. Most of all she served her family, always giving of herself and always concerned. Even up until her last breath she wanted to make sure we would be ok. We are sure that when she entered heaven, God said to our mommy, "Well done my good and faithful servant." She made her peaceful transition in her sleep on the afternoon of Saturday, January 14, 2017. Anne was preceded in death by her brothers, Alfred Humphrey, Robert Humphrey and Edward Humphrey; and sisters, Helen Humphrey and Edith Hilton. She leaves cherished memories with her children Deirdra Nicole Chester, Baltimore, MD; John Arthur Chester Jr., Fort Pierce, FL; Dayna (Wade) Dallas, Orlando, FL; godson, Jabare Smith, Atlanta, GA; grandson, Wade Dallas III (affectionately known as her Suga Suga) of Orlando, FL. Joining in those memories are her sisters, Babes Humphrey, Hempstead, NY; Carolyn (Ricky) Hayes, Lithonia, GA; Rose (Benny) Britt, Egg Harbor, NJ. Her brothers Michael (Sonya) Humphrey, Rockville Centre, NY Peter (Shirley) Humphrey, Charlotte, NC; as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
