Ismé was born on March 25, 1916 in Dajabon, Dominican Republic. Her father was named Lumina Itrema and her mother was named Irema Isme. She had 3 brothers (Norte,
Creyona, and Frader) and 2 sisters (Fabe and Caroline). At the age of 21, she left the Dominican Republic on the day that President Trujilio ordered the execution of more than 20,000 Haitians.
She ran to Haiti from the Dominican soldiers in order to save her life. When she arrived in Haiti, she lived there for a good amount of time before meeting Resius Jean. One day, she went out to grind corn, and when Resius Jean saw her, he liked her and started talking to her. A little while afterwards, they both agreed to be together and Resius Jean presented himself to her parents. They had 7 children together — 5 daughters and 2 sons: Arelia Jean, Luzette Jean (deceased), Marie-Lucy Jean (deceased), Rosina Jean Joseph, Jocelyn
Jean, Renold Jean, and Rose Marie Jean Gilot.
Clermancia’s professions included being a seamstress, merchant and cultivator, which helped her pay for the education of her children. She left Capotille to go live in Fort Liberte with her daughter Rosina Jean Joseph, and that is where she accepted Jesus Christ in her life as her personal Savior in 1987 before getting baptized at the Baptist Church of Fort Liberte. After awhile, she went to live in Port au Prince with her daughter Rose Marie Gilot. She then moved to
the United States on January 21, 2000, where she lived with her son Renold Jean along with his wife Marie Michelle and his daughters for 23 years and 9 months. After that, she went to live with her daughter Rose Marie Gilot along with her family on October 4, 2023. During that time, she fell ill and had a heart attack in December 2023. On January 22, 2024, she fell into the state of a coma that lasted 10 days, and on January 31, 2024, she breathed her last breath.
She leaves behind 5 children (Arelia Jean, Rosina Jean Joseph, Jocelyn Jean, Renold Jean, and Rose Marie Jean Gilot), 2 daughters-in-law (Marie Michelle Jean and Micheline Exil Jean), and 2 sons-in-law (Wilem Joseph and Jean Erold Gilot).
She leaves behind 25 grandchildren (Chrispin Joseph, Wilphina Joseph, Roseline Joseph, Wilguy Joseph, Ketline Joseph Penette, Widlin Joseph, Dar-Woodlyns Joseph, Moranise St Ilbert Etienne, Nelson St Ilbert, Azilia St Ilbert, Danius St Ilbert, Wilson St Ilbert, Roselin St Ilbert, Wisena Jean Mervilus, Edlin Jean, Edline Jean Bienmirtyl, Ricardo Jean, Naïka M. Jean, Garald Jean, Sky V. Gilot, Max C. Gilot, Garcely J. Gilot, Renodade Jean Davermande, Lourdia Jean, and Tarah Jean) and 32 great-grandchildren.
We thank God for receiving Sister Clermancia Ismé’s soul, and we also thank the entire family, the church, and our friends both young and old who always assisted Sister Clermancia Ismé. She has passed away, but she will forever be engraved in our memories and we believe that we will one day reunite with her in the glory of the Lord. May she rest in peace!
