Dr. Wiener Bastien

December 5, 1938 — August 13, 2019

Dr. Wiener Bastien

Dr. Wiener Bastien was born to the late Anna Bastien on December 5, 1938 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.   “Babas” or “Nene”, as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, completed his primary and secondary schooling at Lycée Pétion.  From an early age, he showed a passion for Education and knowledge in general. Upon graduation, he followed his calling by attending Medical School with a specialization in Ophthalmology.

As a loving and caring man, Dr. Wiener married the love of his life of 51 years, Gislaine Rameau, on January 6, 1968.  The Lord blessed their union with four wonderful children

(Farahnaz, Yamilée, Jean-Phillip, and Marilise) and two grandchildren (Genly and Kayla). His son Jean-Phillip and granddaughter Kayla have both preceded him in death.  Dr. Wiener’s love and devotion flowed from his heart, then to his family.  “Babas” cared deeply for his wife and children. He was a hardworking husband and father who strived to succeed.  He loved his family and in return his family loved and cherished him.  He instilled the highest level of morals and values into his children. As a result of this, they will undoubtedly pass on the same teachings to their children as part of his legacy.  He made sure his children knew God first, their Haitian culture, and the will to serve. They will always remember him as the devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend that he was.  His wife Gislaine says: “I have been very fortunate for the life we shared together. I have been spoiled, he lived for his family. I thank God for that WONDERFUL man.”

Dr. Wiener had many pastimes with a passion for reading, music, history, mangos, soccer, Mercedes cars, Panama hats, and socializing. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  Anyone who became acquainted with him quickly realized that he had a genuine heart and a wonderful spirit.

On Tuesday, August 13, 2019, Dr. Wiener “Babas” Bastien departed from this life and entered into Paradise.  His warming presence and ever-loving smile was replaced with memories and tears.  He leaves behind a legacy of compassion and a strong work ethic and we must remember him by following his wonderful example.  His many good works go before him. He lived an active, happy, loving, giving, plentiful, blessed, irreplaceable life. His kindness will never be replaced and he will never be forgotten.  He was loved, respected, and admired by those who met him for his friendliness, work ethic, wealth of knowledge, honesty and of course his sense of humor. He will be deeply missed.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories:

Wife: Gislaine Bastien; Children: Farahnaz, Yamilée, and Marilise; Son-in-law: Valentin Miloje; Grandson: Genly; Brother and Sister: Jacques and Violette; along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, and friends who have been affected by this loss.

He is also preceded in death by his beloved mother Anna Bastien, his sisters Anna Cassagnol, Laura and France-Elie, and his brother Gerald..

May His Soul Rest In Peace
