Elionise Saint Remy

Elionise Saint-Remy, affectionately known as “Tante Yona, Tante Nini, Tante Nise, and Grandma, was born in La Tortue on April 7, 1933, to the late father Josaphat Saint-Remy and late mother Nortil Romain. She moved from La Tortue to La Pointe des Palmistes and accepted the Lord as her personal Savior in 1989. She was baptized and became an active member of Eglise Baptiste Beraca.

A devoted mother who learned the importance of self-sacrifice. She worked tirelessly as a merchant, traveling early in the morning, buying goods and reselling merchandise to raise her eight children without the help of anyone. She lived a life characterized by love, compassion, faith and steadfast devotion to her family and friends. As a dedicated mother, she was a trustworthy, caring, selfless, compassionate woman who sacrificed herself for the well-being of her family, friends and others. Tante Yona was the epitome of a servant of God, never compromising her beliefs when it came to her religious duties.

In 1998, she left Haiti for the United States to be with some of her children and lived with one of her loving daughters in Kissimmee, Florida, who took good care of her until God peacefully called her home.

Elionise Saint-Remy is survived by six of her eight children: Maxime, Rosemarie, Paulette, Tanis, Maude, and Louinise, their spouses and their families and preceded in death by Ginette and Fresnel. Her memory will continue to be honored by her twenty-seven grandchildren and twenty- one great grand-children. She will also be remembered by her brothers and sisters: Odalvie Saint-Remy and family, Mrs. Dieuseul Thelusma and family. The family of her deceased brothers and sisters: Celina, Pharilien, Miguel, Targile, Eldieu, Ginius, Francoeur Saint-Remy, Michel Anestin, Massillon Simon and family, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.
