Agronome Guy Serge Casimir, a dedicated father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024, in Rockville, MD, at the age of 81.
Born on August 3, 1942, in Saint Michel de l’Attalaye, Haiti, Guy was the beloved son of Emile Casimir and Missy Dossous Casimir. He completed his primary education in St. Michel and graduated from Lycée Anténor Firmin. Pursuing higher education, he studied agriculture at Université d’État d’Haïti’s Faculté d’Agronomie et de Médecine Vétérinaire, earning his master’s degree in Agronomy in 1967. Guy then served as an agronomist for the Ministry of Agriculture under the Duvalier regime.
In the 1970s, after the birth of his first son, Serge Jr., Guy emigrated to the United States. Initially residing in New York, he later made New Jersey his permanent home. By the 1980s, he had married Jocelyne Michel Casimir and fathered eight children. Guy worked tirelessly in transportation, eventually becoming a Medallion Taxicab owner in 1988.
At 49, Guy suffered a massive stroke, leaving the right side of his body partially paralyzed. Despite the bleak prognosis, with the unwavering support of his then-wife Jocelyne, Guy made remarkable progress in his recovery, defying medical expectations. The family later moved to Miramar, Florida, where the warmer climate aided his continued rehabilitation.
In 1999, after the passing of his father, Guy endured a massive heart attack and underwent successful quadruple bypass surgery. His resilience shone through as he quickly recovered, continuing to be a vibrant part of the Haitian community in Miramar. In 2004, Guy received a pacemaker, granting him an additional two decades to create cherished memories with family and friends.
Throughout his life, Guy was known for his humor, loyalty, and candidness. He faced life’s challenges head-on, never hesitating to speak his mind. In 2021, dementia began to impact his physical health, compounded by heart disease. In 2023, he moved to be closer to his daughter, Missy, and his ex-wife and lifelong friend Jocelyne, who cared for him lovingly until his peaceful passing.
Guy is survived by his ex-wife and lifelong friend, Jocelyne Michel Casimir; his children Serge (Kelly-Jo) Casimir, Elizabeth Marjorie Menard-Casimir, Renwick (Olympia) Casimir, Mary Sergina Casimir, Dominique (Darrel German) Casimir, Jessica (Sandy Bernard) Casimir-Bernard, Missy (Junior Chery) Casimir-Chery, Jocelyn Casimir and adoptive daughter and niece Nadege (Skaly Charles) Casimir-Charles.
He also leaves behind his grandchildren Joseph Federico-Casimir, Ariana (Raeon) Jones, Ciara (Devin) Daniel, Ariele Davis-Casimir, Jamal Sarrazin, Aiyana Lespinasse, Jeremiah Sarrazin, Jaida Casimir, Anissa Lespinasse-Casimir, Noelle Smith, Nyla Smith, Joshua Sarrazin, Caiden Holmes, Ayishah Stephen, Serge Jr. Casimir, Major Chery, Joy Chery, Talie Bernard, Yann Bernard, Anaika Saint Julien, Trecy Cubidon, Doudjica Cubidon, and Eddyson Cubidon.
