“And God shall wipe all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.”

Revelation 21:4

Today we are here to celebrate the life of the Patriarch of our family.

Mr.  Leonard Wilbert Walters, son of Loretta Ellis and Percy Walters, was born on April 8, 1934, in Manchester, Jamaica. After graduating high school, he went on to train and become a Special Constable.  As a Special Constable Police Officer, Mr. Walters served his community well for many years. Throughout his career as a Constable, he was known to be very effective, adventurous and self- assured.

Leonard united to Alva Fearon in holy matrimony in July of 1963 in Jamaica.  Together, they produced four children. He migrated to the United States in August of 1963 where he worked several jobs in the Construction Field to take care of his wife and children back in Jamaica.  Leonard lived in Mattapan, Massachusetts. He divorced his wife in January 1985, however, he continued to support his children emotionally and financially.  In the 80s, he began working for Modern Continental Construction Company as a Laborer. In the 90s, he worked for Demardio and Kewitt Construction until he retired in the early 2000s. He was regarded as a hard worker, good team player, and one that stood his ground.

Lenny was the disciplinarian of the family.  According to my aunt, when Ms. Alva called him to discipline her and her siblings, he would show up in his hard hat and construction boots to address the matter.  However, regardless of his perceived rough exterior, he was a gentle, loving, and very funny man.  Leonard loved spending time with his family and friends. He was always there to offer support and encouragement no matter what challenges he faced.

Leonard Walters peacefully departed from this life surrounded by his family on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Cornerstone Hospice in Ocoee, Florida.   Leonard’s beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children:  Alma Walters, Dennis Walters; (with his wife 4 children): Barrington Walters, Carol Walters, Evadnie Walters and Beverly Walters. His siblings:  Mavis Miles, Joseph Walters, Colbert Hewitt (RIP), Roy Hewitt (RIP), Cerene Walters (RIP), Vida Walters, (RIP) Sarah Walters (RIP), and Beryl Walters (RIP), and Ranford Walters (RIP). He left a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and extended family.

A very special thanks to his extended family, Selena Robinson and Vivian Sullivan.

May the Almighty God show each of us the power of his love and comfort!  Rest in Peace Leonard.
