Thank you all for being here today. Your presence is a true testament to the amount ofpeople Nennen was able to influence, and on the behalf of her and the family, I want to express our heartfelt gratitude.
Violette Marie Brun was born on November 22, 1948 to Deces Brun and Dieuda Meneus in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She was the 5th of eleven siblings. She grew up in Segur and was a great student academically, but was a fiery and feisty youth. She loved to crack jokes, sometimes at the expense of others, and would be more than happy to fight whoever had a problem with it.She was also very active, playing soccer in her freetime, and to her mother’s anger, marbles, a game that she thought was only for boys. But she liked to make her own way, and thought it was worth the punishment.
As she got older, she became more involved in the church. She put on theater shows every September and December with her sister, Delourdres, and also led and participated in Bible the med pageants, and thanks in part to her efforts, her church often won. She later graduated high school and began work as a typist, which is a job similar to a secretary today. At the age of 30, she moved to Martinique to pursue a better life. She made her money by working in different restaurants and selling clothes and also became a Maestra for her local church. Then, at the age of 35, she made her way into the United States and worked as a travelling clothes saleswoman. After traveling for 14 years, she earned her CNA license and settled down in Orlando with her sister Roseline, brother-in-law, Ismane, and their kids. This remained her occupation up until her condition forced her to retire at age 65.
In her old age, she enjoyed a more sedentary lifestyle. She loved sitting on the couch watching Jeopardy, The Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, animal documentaries, international soccer, and after many years of convincing, she became a big fan of NBA basketball, watching every game that she could. She also loved word search puzzles and sudoku. She’d actually go through entire 500 page books of puzzles in just two or three months. During this time, she also fell in love with her favorite food: pizza. It didn’t matter what was on it or where it was from, all pizza was good pizza. Lastly, even well into her 60s, she loved jumping rope outside with her family. She said it reminded her of her childhood.
Her last few years were tough on her, and even with all the pain she was going through, she continued to smile, crack jokes, and work on her puzzles. Nenen was a great joy to have around. Someone who loved to be the center of attention and also mediate any on going arguments to keep the peace. She had big emotions and wore her heart on her sleeve, and we will never forget the person she was before her disease grew to be too much. On May 12, 2025,at 6:30PM, Nennen quietly passed away at the Aspire at Rosewood Facility in Orlando, Florida. In passing, she leaves behind six siblings: Arnold, Delourdes, Camille, Yolaine, Roseline,Jeanjean, as well as their spouses and many children who were blessed to call her Aunty, Matant, Nennen, Sr Vio, Nen, and many other nicknames and terms of endearment. But, she now joins her deceased siblings in rest: Berthony, Frito, Ricot, Yonel.
To Marie Brun (Nennen), we love you, we miss you, and we all know you are in a better place now getting the rest you deserve. And to everyone here, I once again want to thank you all for joining us, and want to remind you that today is not just about grieving, but also celebrating the life of Violette Marie “Nennen” Brun. Stay strong, and thank you for listening.
