The late Deacon Melvin Henry Evans of Ocala, Florida and Dr. Middie Jean Reddick Evans of Albany, GA joined in holy matrimony, and to their union was born Melvin Eugene Evans on October 31, 1961. He entered eternal rest on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
Melvin attended the public schools of Miami-Dade County and graduated from Miami Senior High in 1980. He furthered his education at Miami Dade College where he received an Associates of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1983. For seven years, he was employed by Jackson Health System in the Environmental Engineering Department where he specialized in Special Immunology, Pediatrics, Intensive Care Unit and other specialty areas.
Upon leaving Jackson Health Systems in 1987, his vocational interest led him to marketing and retail at JCPenney where he specialized in customer service and retail distribution until 2002. He later turned his focus to safety and security when he became a Certified Licensed Security Officer until 2025.
With a strong spiritual influence from his parents, Melvin became a Christian at age 18 and joined the Highway Church of the Apostolic Faith of Miami, FL under the leadership of Bishop A. Bell. He served as an usher, member of the male chorus, and a youth leader. He continued his Christian walk when he moved his ministry affiliation in June 1994 to Koinonia Worship Center & Village where the senior pastor is Dr. Eric H. Jones, Jr. There he served faithfully as an usher, member of the male chorus and an audio technician.
Melvin leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Dr. Middie Jean Evans; a sister, Adrienne Cunningham (Randolph); god brother and cousin, Elder Richard L. (Angela) Jones, Sr.; god sister and cousin, Diedra Wright; aunts, Dr. Mary D. Mites Campbell, Elaine Evans-Echols and Everay Jones; uncles, Emmanuel Evans and Curtis Evans; cousins Evelyn Jones, Charon (Emeka Dike) Kingsley, nieces, nephews and a host of relatives, extended family, church members and friends.
Lord, we pray for hope and strength to get through this grief that grips us. We have lost our son, our brother, our nephew, our cousin, and our friend. You have taken him into your hands and now he rests in your care. May he be blessed and welcomed with open arms and feel your love for all eternity. Amen
