Timothy Eugene Flowers

Timothy Eugene Flowers, affectionately known as “Duck” by friends and loved ones, was born on April 13, 1964, in Miami, Florida, to the late Charles J. Flowers and Mattie P. Sergeon. Raised in the heart of Miami, he began his education at Lily C. Evans Elementary School, continued at Robert E. Lee Junior High, and graduated from Miami Jackson Senior High School, where he made a name for himself as a standout football and basketball star. He later earned his Bachelor of Arts in Education from Union Institute & University, setting the foundation for a career dedicated to serving others.

One of the most defining and beautiful parts of Timothy’s life was his union with Tiwana S. Flowers. Their love story began when they were just sixteen years old—two teenagers whose bond grew into a lifelong partnership. They married in 1988 and shared 37 years of love, laughter, and faith. Timothy dedicated 37 years of service to the Miami-Dade County Public School System, retiring just one month before his passing. Among his proudest roles was serving as Site Director of the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project at Miami Park Elementary School, where he mentored countless young men, steering them toward purpose and away from violence.

For 16 years, Timothy also worked with the Miami Herald, faithfully delivering newspapers throughout the community. Rain or shine, early mornings or late nights—even on holidays—he could be counted on to make his rounds, always offering a wave, a kind word, or a listening ear to the neighbors he encountered. Timothy’s greatest job began when he answered the call to ministry—a role that would shape the rest of his life.

In 1995, he joined New Jerusalem Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of Elder Kenneth A. Duke. Over the next several years, his commitment to service deepened. In 1998, he was officially licensed and later ordained to the ministry. During his time at New Jerusalem, he taught New Members Orientation, sang in the Male Choir, served as a summer camp counselor, and poured his heart into every aspect of church life.

In 2007, Timothy embarked on a new chapter in his spiritual journey, becoming the pastor of New Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church, where he proudly served his congregation for 18years until his passing. Outside of his professional and spiritual commitments, Timothy found joy in life’s simple pleasures: cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys, enjoying brunch with family, laughing heartily, and pouring love into his nieces, nephews, and every young person he encountered. Timothy was preceded in death by both of his parents, his older brother Billy Neal Jr., and hisolder sister Laura Flowers.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 37 years,Tiwana S. Flowers; their three children: Bianca Flowers (Kelvin), Kourtney Flowers, and Jordan Flowers; and his children: TawandaCarter (Alex), Timothy E. Flowers Jr., Mikesha Collins (Gregory),Timothy R. Flowers, and Catera Flowers. He also leaves behind his siblings: Katrina Thompson (Terrence), Arquitha Dixon, LatesiaDixon (Owen), Carrianne Flowers, and Akeem Flowers; his grandchildren: Timothy Bostic Jr., Tim’Niyah Bostic, Chase Carter,Gregory Collins Jr., Kortize Collins, and Jream Ray; and two godchildren: Abrianne Brookins and Jaylon Dixon. His life and love will be remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and all those whose lives he touched through mentorship, ministry, and friendship.
